Gift ideas for Dad

By Gifts Advisor | May 25, 2009

Are you tired of getting Dad a tie for the holidays too? Or yet another set of tools? Dads are difficult to buy gifts for, so we’ve decided to put together a list of excellent gift ideas both you and he will love.

1. Robe, pajamas, and slippers. These are excellent gifts to give dad particularly in the cold winter time. You can get him just one of these things, or all of them depending on what he may already have, and what his likes and dislikes are. A nice soft, quality, warm robe usually works best for men. A good pair of Winter pajamas however, or even just warm pajama pants usually works very well too.

2. Indoor sports. If your dad loves being active, playing sports, and even just watching sports, then an excellent gift idea for him might be one or more indoor sports games. The gift giving season is in the middle of winter, so he’s not able to get out and be active as much as he normally would. By giving him an indoor dart board for example, or a pool table, or even just a small basketball hoop for his office, he’ll be thrilled to be able to play his favorite activities inside.

3. A new watch. For some reason, a new wristwatch is always a wonderful gift idea for dad. Maybe because there are such a wide variety to choose from, and dad watches seem to have some of the coolest features built right in. You could buy him a waterproof watch for example, one which holds addresses and phone numbers, or one which has a built-in compass. The more doodads a wristwatch seems to have, the better most dads seem to like them.

4. Barbecue accessories. If your dad loves to barbecue outdoors, then this could be a wonderful gift idea for him. Try buying him a set of tools which include a fire poker, tongs, and a long handled spatula. Don’t forget to get him to barbecue apron, or even a silly hat.

5. A Swiss Army knife. There are a variety of pocketknife type tools on the market these days, which are similar to the old-fashioned Swiss Army knife. These pocket tools tend to be one gadget which has many tools all included together. Not only is there a pocketknife, but there’s usually a screwdriver, a file, a corkscrew, a flashlight, and various other essentials that can come in handy at any given time. Make this gift even more special by having dads name engraved on it.

6. A battery-less flashlight. A popular and extremely useful gadget these days is a flashlight which does not require batteries. These are excellent for keeping in the car, or in the tool shed. Instead of putting batteries in it or plugging it in, you simply wind up a handle to charge it. Many of these come with built-in radios, emergency beacons and alarms. And for some reason, these are very popular gifts for dads.

7. An electric razor or trimmer. An electric razor is an old standby favorite for almost any dad who likes to keep a clean-shaven face. What most people don’t think of though, is the electric trimmer. If your dad enjoys wearing a mustache or beard, the electric trimmer is extremely handy to help him keep his face neatly trimmed without being fully shaven. These also tend to be very handy for dads who travel a lot.
